Chemical Peel
A chemical peel is a procedure where a chemical such as glycolic acid or salicylic acid is applied to the skin. It allows rapid removal of dead skin cells, thus revealing a clearer, younger complexion.
It is useful for treatment of acne, blocked pores, pigmentation, mild acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles. It is a quick, office based treatment. During the treatment, a slight stinging sensation may be experienced. After the peel is complete, the skin may appear slightly red for 1 to 2 days; fine peeling of the skin may occur on the subsequent days. After a peel, it is important to avoid sun exposure and apply a sunscreen.
Depending on the nature of your skin problem, the chemical peel may need to be repeated on a monthly basis. Your doctor will assess your skin and decide which type of chemical peel you are best suited for.
